Does Bigfoot live in Upstate New York (video)

WHITEHALL, N.Y. -- The Adirondack Mountains have many tales to tell, and likely keep even more secrets.

The town of Whitehall, NY is tucked away in the southeast corner of the range -- population a little over two thousand -- and for the most part, it's a quiet place to live.

But spend some time in it's deep forests, or hike its brooding mountains, and you might come to understand why many folks in town think something strange is out there.

Accounts of Bigfoot sightings have become legend over the years, a cultural phenomenon, evolving from tales whispered around a campfire to questionable accounts documented on reality TV.

But Whitehall has been a hot bed of Bigfoot activity for hundreds of years. Paul Bartholomew is an author and Whitehall resident. He's been researching this pheomena for almost 40 years.

"You can go all the way back to the Algonquin and the Iroquois and their stories of the Giant Men and the Giant Men Of The Mountains, and the Stone Giants," Bartholomew said. "In the 1800's they were called "wild men" or "strange bears", so there's a consistent pattern of sightings from the Algonquin and Iroquois to the present day that maintains this mystery."

Bartholomew has documented scores of sightings over the years, has even collected physical evidence such as plaster casts of huge bare footprints found in the area. But the most compelling testimony comes from Whitehall's most famous incident, which happened in August of 1976.

Mississippi residents report sightings of “El Chupacabra” (video)

PEARL RIVER COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - An unwanted visitor has made himself at home in the quiet town of Picayune. "If a zombie had a dog, it would look like that," said Jennifer Whitfield.

She and her 11-year-old son, Justin, spotted the mysterious creature on a lot near their home. They weren't sure what to think, but Justin believed it could be a chupacabra.

They captured video of the animal and posted it online. That's when they discovered they weren't the only ones to spot the animal. A few streets over, the Dentons were already on the case.

"I kept looking up ‘hairless coyote,' and it kept saying ‘chupacabra,'" said Amanda Denton. "We've been running back and forth to our cars because we didn't want the chupacabra to get us."

Her husband, Jonathan, was at a loss as well. "I didn't know what it was, but then Animal Control couldn't find it, so maybe it was a chupacabra," he said.

Ghost Hunters star has never seen a ghost (video)

Steve Gonsalves has spent 20 years seeking out the paranormal – but he says he’s never seen a ghost with his own eyes.

Gonsalves is one part of the spirit-seeking team on SyFy Channel’s “Ghost Hunters” series.

“What you would think of as the floating apparition, I’ve never seen that,” Gonsalves told Fox News’ Lauren Green. “I’ve seen a lot of things I can’t explain – objects moving, things falling that doesn’t make sense, smells, black masses, that sort of thing – but I’ve never seen an actual ghost.”

Nevertheless, Gonsalves plans to keep looking for ghosts and evidence of their existence. He says people are drawn to the supernatural because of a natural curiosity about what happens after death.

“Is there life after death? Where do we go? What happens to the energy inside of our body?” Gonsalves asks. “Investigators like me, we’re looking for those answers for people and for us.”

As for whether you should cower in fear if you suspect a spirit nearby, Gonsalves says you’re in the clear … for the most part.

Woman claims she was healed by a ghost...with a photo to prove it

A WOMAN believes she was healed by a ghostly apparition known as the White Lady as she visited a church during a family summer holiday.

Diane Berthelot had been unwell for months after having her gall bladder removed and was taking antibiotics for an infection when she went into Worstead village church in Norfolk to rest and escape the heat.

While she sat on a pew close to the font and prayed for a full recovery, her husband Peter and son David wandered around the empty church taking photographs.

Mrs Berthelot remembers vividly tingling all over and feeling “warm and comfortable” while sitting on the wooden bench with her eyes closed and head bowed.

When she felt better the family left the church and did not think about the incident until six months later when the camera film was developed and they held a slide show of their holiday snaps for their lodger at their home in Chelmsford, Essex.

One photo clearly showed a woman wearing a bonnet and dressed in light-coloured, old-fashioned clothes, sitting facing Mrs Berthelot on a bench directly behind her.

The ghost of Vera haunts Pacific University

Vera is something of a local celebrity. She haunts Pacific University’s Knight Hall, playing tricks on those inside and flipping on the lights.

Or so the stories say.

Stories of Vera have swirled through Forest Grove for more than a century, said Jeff Grundon, senior associate director of admissions. As a student at Pacific University in the 1970s, he wasn’t sure he believed the stories, even when his friends said they met her at night.

But when his office as an employee was moved to Knight Hall 20 years ago, he started noticing things.

He has etched the date of the first incident into his brain: July 5, 1993. The hairs on the back of his neck stood up, and he couldn’t open a door.

Grundon said a pileup of events made him a believer. Strange smells, silly laughs. Lights on when he turned them off.

Once, he watched his briefcase slide three feet of its own accord. Another time, a fan turned itself on when he was working with a colleague and a student.

County employees busted for ghost camera

Two city-county employees have been given reprimands for having a camera posted in hopes of capturing paranormal activity in the county health department, Chief Executive Matt Vincent said Tuesday.

Vincent said an internal investigation concluded — as the county attorney had said in August — that no crimes had been committed. When asked if the matter could be characterized as off-the-wall or something serious, he said both.

“I mean, for God’s sake, whenever you are talking about ghosts it’s off the wall,” he said. “But it’s serious in that the public gives trust in us and we need to take that seriously, and setting up cameras in public buildings to catch paranormal activity I don’t think is gaining the public’s trust.”

The investigation began after a motion-sensitive camera was found Aug. 21 in a vacant, little-used room in the Butte-Silver Bow County Health Department at 25 W. Front St. It was determined later the camera belonged to a nonprofit group called the Butte Paranormal Investigative Team, which set it up after work hours.

According to a memo about the investigation from Interim Human Resources Director Penny McElroy, one employee indicated that she worked with a local group to see if there was any paranormal activity in the building.

Ghost appears in window of home in Ohio (video)

RAVENNA, Ohio - A local ghost story is getting new attention.

Lu Ann Sicuro has lived in her Ravenna home for 20 years. She says she's experienced some strange and frightening paranormal activity.

She hears voices, noises in the closets and door knobs jiggling.

She claims the proof is in a photo taken by her son a few years ago. It shows a little girl's image in the window.

Lu Ann said what was captured on camera is quite disturbing and very bizarre.

“I feel that this image is a very good photo of something paranormal caught on camera,” she said
Lu Ann thinks the girl is roaming her halls at night.

"A very disturbing photo. It appears to be an image of a child. I believe the image in the photograph shows what is in our home," she said. "I’ve heard giggling, I've heard little footsteps."

Occupants say former Illinois restaurant is haunted.

MOUNT PULASKI — Several current and former occupants of one Mount Pulaski building say they are convinced the property is haunted.

For years, stories have circulated about mysterious dimes frequently found on the floor and on countertops there. People have recalled seeing shadow-like figures pass through the building and several former residents claim to have heard inexplicable footsteps in the night, as well as many other seemingly unexplainable happenings.

Since 2006, the space at the heart of those stories has been the home of Saddie’s Secret Place, an antiques and collectibles shop on the downtown square.

“I never thought I’d believe as much as I do now,” shop owner Debbi Gellmen said, “and it all started when I moved here.”

Gellmen, who also lives at the location, said that she’s experienced everything from products being moved around the store to strange power outages in her light fixtures.

“That fixture right there,” Gellmen said, as she pointed at an old candelabra-style light, “the lights will go out on that, one by one in a circle, one after another.”

The owner of the property, Lana Hebenstreit, confirmed that she has also had some strange experiences there.

“Pretty much everyone who’s ever lived or worked in that building has had some kind of experience,”
Hebenstreit said.

When she and her family lived in the building, Hebenstreit’s children claimed to have heard footsteps at night that couldn’t be traced to a person.
